Aloha Friends and Family,
We have just completed our Summer 5 Day Kid’s Club in the Waianae Boat Harbor Camp. The kid’s were excited that we were able to spend five consecutive days of teaching Bible lessons, missionary stories and of course play time.
It amazes me how the simple equation of TIME + CONSISTENCY = LOVE to these kids. There is a hunger for affection and affirmation. God has allowed us to develop a great relationship with these kid’s in the camp. We continue to have club every Saturday. We've also made an interesting discovery with these kids. They love the Bible lessons we teach. We have the normal fidgety kids and small distractions that occur, but when we started the missionary stories there is not one distraction with these kids. They are so tuned in to the story, it amazed us. In telling the missionary story we always leave the story with a cliff hanger. It’s to keep the kids in suspense and to have them come back next week to hear the rest of the story. Many of these kids are in need of under garments and clothes for school. So we are believing God for extra to come in over our monthly budget to be able to help fulfill these needs.
We are excited to have partnered with LightHouse Outreach Center with Food Packets to help feed the needy. Every Tuesday they conduct a food outreach where hundreds of families come and receive groceries.
“God calls us to move into the lives of the poor, believing His power can transform them into oaks of righteousness.”
The Hawaii District Youth Conference was held August 3-5. We had 290 youth that participated this year. The theme of the conference was SALT.
Matthew 5:13 You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out trampled underfoot.
The opening speaker was Lessen Kaaloa. He began to share his story growing up with an alcoholic Father. The violence against him and his Mother in their home. How the Lord showed him if he did not forgive his father of his sins he would loose his saltiness.
The ability to effectively share the Gospel. It was a powerful message and ministered to the youth. I was very honored to have been asked to conduct Breakout Sessions on Relationships and Evangelism.
We had sixty-two youth who attended the session. We taught on right relatedness to the Father thru Jesus and how that gives us the ability to be rightly related to each other. To be the SALT of the earth, to be the flavor of God everywhere we go. We had so many youth interested in being filled with the Holy Spirit. We gave This New Life booklets to those who requested them. The Holy Spirit moved during Hawaii Youth Conference Worship.
Luke 4:18-20
The spirit of the Lord is upon us, because he has anointed us to preach the Gospel to the poor; he has sent us to heal the broken hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed.
Please keep us in prayer as we begin to teach those which Jesus spoke of in Luke 4. We are using Pastor Billy Joe’s book as the resource to set the captives free, heal the broken hearted and open their eyes of understanding.
